Fund raiser updates

The screening of the movie National Treasure: Book of Secrets sponsored by the TGSO has been officially cancelled. We had low ticket sale turnout and we had no choice but to call off the project. We sincerely apologize for this unforeseen circumstance.

We are, however, still required to get at least 50 tickets from SM. So now, we are selling the tickets at their regular price of Php160.00.

People who have bought the tickets at Php250.00 have the following options:

1) Refund of Php250.00 or
2) Watch the movie on the scheduled date and time. We would provide the ticket (regular price, Php160.00), with the option of a refund for the remaining Php90.00 or have it donated to the TGSO Samar fund.

Since we have collected cash donations for the Samar schoolchildren, we would still be forwarding them to Island School Works Society. We are still accepting cash donations, so if you or anyone you know is interested to donate cash or school materials to the children of Samar, please feel free to contact me through my mobile or my email.

Likewise, if you would like to purchase movie tickets for National Treasure: Book of Secrets, scheduled screening on 8 January 2007, 8:00 PM, at the SM Mall of Asia Cinema 3, we are now selling them at Php160.00 each. Please contact me for details.

Thank you very much for your continued support.

They BADLY need OUR help.

"Imagine a school without roofs, chairs, nor books..."

Might be hard to picture, but this is the sad reality that thousands of schoolchildren in Samar face each day. Believe it or not, many public schools in Samar have seemed to be forgotten by time, devastated both by nature and men.

The Island School Works Society is a group committed to change these conditions, one classroom at a time, in the hope that by sending our schoolchildren to proper places for decent education, we can give them a chance to live a better life and, ultimately, help change our country's future.

Presently, there are 12 primary schools (in various states of despair) on Biri Island, Samar -- the POOREST of municipalities in the country -- and they desperately need help. They need our help to build roofs and classrooms, put up libraries, set up toilets, give school chairs, and open play grounds.

However, this would be a very hard task, especially if there are only limited individuals who are willing to work toward the same goal. And it is for this reason why we, the THOMASIAN GRADUATE STUDENTS ORGANIZATION (TGSO), have teamed up with Island School Works Society.

As Graduate Students, we hope to help provide the best possible education to children who are not as educationally fortunate as we are. We believe that education is a right that every child should enjoy, especially those who are in places that do not get much attention from our government.

I hope it isn't much to ask help from YOU to carry out our mission. As a fund-raising project, we are selling tickets for the movie NATIONAL TREASURE 2: Book of Secrets at Php250.00 each. Screening will be on 8 January 2008 (Tuesday), 8:00 PM, at the SM Mall of Asia Cinema 3. Proceeds of this activity will be turned over to Island School Works Society in order to purchase G.I. sheets, marine plywood, lumber and cement to repair roofs and build toilets (all of the 12 schools have no toilets.) The money will also be used to provide for the children's needs: monobloc desks (cost is Php550.00 each), blackboards, and books of any kind for the libraries being set up.

Here's a short audio-visual presentation that shows the plight of the schoolchildren in Samar.

Should you be interested to buy movie tickets for National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets (Jan 8, 7:00 PM screening), kindly contact me through email at dorxie@yahoo.com. You can also contact me for additional information regarding this project.

I would also like to seek help from you by spreading the word about our activity. We have reserved 486 seats for this movie in the hope of raising enough funds. We have exhausted our resources, yet so far, only less than 50 persons have bought tickets.

We will appreciate any kind of help you can give us. Who knows, the next President might just be in Samar, being sent to a school with no roof left, no windows, and no toilet facility.

"This fight is not just to build roofs or buy chairs. It is about bringing light and inspiration back into the lives of our islands' children. How can we forget them? How can we completely abandon these children on the hard and neglected road to learning? Please help make these forgotten schools a children's paradise."

In behalf of the TGSO, thank you very much in advance.
