Post Gameshow Blah Blahs

I went home unbelievably tired Tuesday night because I went to the taping of the gameshow I was in. I was there 10 AM, but the taping prolly started around 3 PM or so. It was super hot and I was wearing a Japanese inspired satin top... ang init diba? Kasi naman I was thinking if ever I win, dapat maganda ang itsura sa TV!

I didn't bring a bag but I brought an extra top because we were instructed to bring one in case we have to tape for another episode. I didn't use it though because I didn't join the next batch of players. None of us did. Haha. I brought some kikay stuff anyway, even though we were discouraged to bring other things aside from our wallets, cellphones, IDs, and extra tops. Ganon talaga eh, I had to make sure that my TV appearance is worth the hours standing in super long lines. My kikay stuff were in my pouch together with my phone and wallet, and we were made to leave all our other things outside the studio. So we had to leave our extra tops outside. Take note: they discourage use of paper bags. PLASTIC bags lang talaga. Kainis, nakakasira ng porma. Hahaha.

Anyway, bad trip lang because they said come in semiformal attire. So nag effort naman ako. Jeep to Magallanes, MRT to Cubao, LRT to Santolan, then taxi to the studio. Tapos when I got there some people were wearing jeans and some were in shirts. Sabi ngang walang magshi-shirt eh. Can't follow instructionsssss. Face the wall na yan! Haha. Bad trip. Sana nag jeans na lang din ako. Masunurin kasi ako sa dress code eh!

We waited for like 4 hours before the the actual taping. The game itself lasted for less than an hour. It all happened so fast; before I knew it, the game was already over. And if you want to ask what happened to me... I didn't win. Somebody else did. Hahahaha. OLATS. But then again, it was a fun experience. Pero I prolly wouldn't try it again. It was a game of luck which I have no control of. Sobrang slim ng chance to win.

So there. My gameshow experience from the screening to the taping has been quite refreshing pero at the same time draining. There were lots of things that happened along the way pero I'm too lazy to recall everything. Haha. Oh, and I don't think I'm allowed to say the gameshow's name because the episode I am in has not been aired yet. We signed waivers and stuff kaya secret muna. Watch out nalang in the coming days. Hahaha.

Hey there, Delilah.

Hey there Delilah, what's it like in New York City?
I'm a thousand miles away, but girl tonight you look so pretty
Yes, you do.
Times Square can't shine as bright as you
I swear it's true.

Hey there Delilah, don't you worry about the distance.
I'm right there if you get lonely, give this song another listen
Close your eyes.
Listen to my voice, it's my disguise
I'm by your side.

Oh it's what you do to me. Oh it's what you do to me.
Oh it's what you do to me. Oh it's what you do to me.
What you do to me.

Hey there Delilah, I know times are getting hard
But just believe me, girl, someday I'll pay the bills with this guitar
We'll have it good.
We'll have the life we knew we would
My word is good.

Hey there Delilah, I've got so much left to say.
If every simple song I wrote to you would take your breath away,
I'd write it all.
Even more in love with me you'd fall
We'd have it all.

Oh it's what you do to me. Oh it's what you do to me.
Oh it's what you do to me. Oh it's what you do to me.

A thousand miles seems pretty far,
but they've got planes and trains and cars
I'd walk to you if I had no other way.
Our friends would all make fun of us,
and we'll just laugh along because we know that none of them have felt this way.

Delilah, I can promise you that by the time we get through
the world will never ever be the same, and you're to blame.

Hey there Delilah, you be good and don't you miss me
Two more years and you'll be done with school,
And I'll be making history like I do,
you'll know it's all because of you.

We can do whatever we want to.

Hey there Delilah here's to you, this one's for you.

Oh it's what you do to me. Oh it's what you do to me.
Oh it's what you do to me. Oh it's what you do to me.
What you do to me.

Hello there, Sidekick and W130!!

After traveling almost 1000 miles from the other side of the Mother Earth, my babies are finally here!!! I've been waiting for my newest gadgets to arrive since i bought them February this year and I can't get over the fact that they are actually right here in my loving arms! Haha! Hello, Sidekick II and Sony Cybershot W130. I am your new master, serve me well. =)

A few of my friends prolly know how worried I was during the whole shipping thing from sellers to my cousin, then from my cousin to my friend. Grabe. Huminto ang mundo. Hay salamat. Makakahinga na rin ako sa wakas!

Sidekick II!

At first, I was more excited to get the fone more than the camera. Why? Una, walang Sidekick sa Pilipinas so I was so thrilled to spot a reliable seller in the US selling it for, well, a relatively cheap price. Second, I love the swivel screen! I thought kasi slide sya then I found out swivel pala. Ang cool cool kaya. Sobra.

Actually, it's an old Sidekick model. Thing is, this and the Sidekick 2008 are the only tri-band Sidekick phones, which means sila lang ang pwede sa Pilipinas. The unlocked Sidekick 2008 retails at around USD300 (or more!) so sobrang mahal na yun para sa dukhang katulad ko. I got my unlocked Sidekick II for, believe it or not, less than USD100. LESS THAN 100, DUDE. Less than 100. It's not even dumb luck. It's retarded luck!!

So anyway, I bought it off from a seller in New York and the had it shipped to my cousin in Stockton, California. From my cousin, it was sent to my friend Joey in East Bay in California. And then finally, Joey brought it home to Manila. I actually didn't know at first if Joey got the package because she wasn't replying to my mails so sobrang panic mode ako the whole 3 weeks. I was even forced to create a Myspace account just to contact her. Thank God her sister Sam replied to my Facebook message!

I met Joey during lunch to get the items and I almost cried when she gave them to me. After traveling 9552 miles (from NY to Stockton, from Stockton to Antioch, from Antioch to Manila), it's finally here! I went staight to Ate Pea's house in Manila kasi I had to wait for Mom there and I quickly checked out the phone. You should've seen the smile on my face when I got hold of my Sidekick. Pati si Joaqui naki usyoso! Hahaha!

Medyo I got disappointed lang kasi the rubber bumpers were blue! (The actual blue shade is darker than the one shown in the pic) Not that I don't like the color blue, but the phone looks so masculine with it! The bumpers are usually dark grey and I dunno why the heck mine's blue! Ackkkk! Now I'm forced to shop for new bumpers online kasi I won't find them locally naman. I'm getting either pink or orange or maybe white. Plus, the interface is so not user-friendly. I guess it takes a lot of getting used to (pati yung QWERTY keyboard).

Nonetheless, my Sidekick still rocks! No one has texted or called me up on my Sidekick so I can't really tell kung ano ang experience using it. Plus, I have tons of numbers to transfer pa, it'll prolly take days to finish setting up the phone. So we'll see how this goes. Medyo na-tatanga pa ako eh. Trial period is on =)

Cybershot!

When I opened my W130 Cybershot, grabe, nakalimutan ko and disappointment ko sa Sidekick! I got even more excited sa cam! Hay salamat. May kapalit na ang Olympus ko na 42 years old na yata. *whew*

Of course my Olympus will always have a special place in my heart (naks!) kasi we've been through a lot already: WOW Philippines adevntures, my Visayan sojourn, Davao escapade, Chem Congresses, international Chem conferences, Melbourne and Sydney trip, World Youth Day!!, DWTL Annivs, burdays, gatherings, wasted gimik nights, sleepovers, and lotsa crazy lab moments. But I guess all good things must meet their end. 4 megapixels is so not cool anymore. It's time to move on na talaga (though the W130 model isn't exactly new).

Well, the W130 was also a bargain. I got it for less than USD140 kaya sobrang good deal na. I wanted a better version of the W series but the most updated version na may rose pink na color ay yung W130 lang. It travelled from Tennessee to Stockton to East Bay to Manila, 8940 miles in total. Grabe, if only my gadgets are Mabuhay milers I'm sure may round trip ticket for two na ako to a domestic destination!

I've always wanted a Sony cam and I dunno why Dad got me an Olympus. Kala nya yata microscope ang gusto ko. Hahaha! Pero finally. Salamat naman. *insert big big smile here* Im so looking forward to my summer trips with my friends (though walang plano, I'm sure magakakron yan! Barx! Shnoitz! Dazers! Tara na!!!) and my Manalangsang family (eto definitely matutuloy kahit bumabagyo pa!) para mabinyagan na ang camera! Actually, Joaqui, Dom and I already used it kagad. Si Joaqui kasi excited eh. Mana sa ninang at sa nanay! Hahaha!

Haaay. I <3 you, Cybershot. Here's to more years of togetherness and adventures!

I may have ADHD. Ulllppp...

Here's what Wikipedia says about ADHD and I can relate! Hahaha! Baka mya slight case of ADHD ako! Mommy!!!!!!

The most common symptoms of ADHD are:
  • Impulsiveness: acting before thinking of consequences (i am an impulsive shopper, and i sometimes regret things i did after doing them), jumping from one activity to another (like shifting thesis from biochem to sensors), disorganization (you guys should check out my room right now), tendency to interrupt other peoples' conversations (i am a chatterbox, what can i say?)
  • Hyperactivity: restlessness (i can't stay put in one place), often characterized by an inability to sit still (told ya), fidgeting (when i'm bored during lectures and meetings), squirminess (you should see my gigil squirm dance), climbing on things (oh yes, like bell towers and light houses kesehodang may altophobia), restless sleep (i toss and turn like a disco dancing centipede sometimes.)
  • Inattention: easily distracted (daming ginagawa, nawawala sa concentration. hence, not finishing THESIS), day-dreaming (oh yessss), not finishing work (am easily bored), difficulty listening (again, i'm easily bored by mediocre thoughts.)

Romeo, save me...

I got tired of waiting, wondering if you were ever coming around.
My faith in you was fading when i met you on the outskirts of town.

Romeo, save me, I've been feeling so alone.
I keep waiting for you, but you never come.
Is this in my head? I don't know what to think.

Is it a love story? But baby, you never said yes. =(

Meet the Meantime Girl

Oh my. I'm now starting to think that I am a meantime girl. Ate Lia, I feel yah!

***

She's the one you talk to when you're feeling down because she's willing to lend an ear and be a friend. She's not the one you call when you need a date to your Christmas party, or to go dancing with on a Saturday night. She's the one you spend time with between girlfriends, before you find "The One". You know, the one who you keep around in the meantime.

She's not one of the guys, not a tomboy, but you don't look at her as a "real" woman, either. She's not bitchy enough, moody enough, or sexy enough to be seen in that light. She's too laid-back, too easily amused by the same things your male buddies are amused by. She's too understanding, too comfortable; she doesn't make you feel nervous or excited the way a "real"woman does. But she's cool, and nice, and funny, and attractive enough that when you're lonely and need intimate female companionship, she'll do just fine.

You don't have to wine and dine her because she knows the real you already, and you don't have any facades to keep up, no pretenses to preserve. You're not trying to get anything of substance out of her.

She's not easy, but you know that she cares about you and is attracted to you, and that she'll give you the intimacy you need. And you know you don't have to explain yourself or the situation, that she'll be able to cope with the fact that this isn't the beginning of a relationship or that there's any possibility that you have any real romantic feelings for her.

It won't bother her that you'll get up in the morning, put on your pants, say goodbye, and go on a date with the woman you've been mooning over for weeks who finally agreed to go out with you. She'll settle for a goodbye hug and a promise to call her and tell her how the date went. She's just so cool . . . why can't all women be like that?!

But zilashp down, if you really think about it (which you probably don't because to you, the situation between the two of you isn't important enough to merit any real thought), you know that it's really not fair. You know that although she would never say it, it hurts her to know that despite all her good points and all the fun you two have, you don't think she's good enough to spend any real time with.

Sure, it's mostly her fault, because she doesn't have to give in to your needs; she could play the hard-to-get biatch like the rest of them do, if she really wanted to. But you and she both know that she probably couldn't pull it off. Maybe she's too short, or a little overweight, or has a big birthmark on her forehead, or works at Taco Bell. Whatever the reason, somehow life has given her a lot of really great qualities but has left out the ones that men want (or think they want) in a woman.

So she remains forever the funny friend, the steadfast companion, the secret lover, and you go on searching for your goddess who will somehow be everything you ever wanted in a woman.

You'll joke to her that she should be the best man at your wedding, and she'll laugh and make a joke about a smelly rental tux. She doesn't captivate you with her beauty, or open doors with her smile. Mainly she blends in with the crowd. She's safe. She doesn't want to be the center of attention and turn the heads of everyone in the room. But she wants to turn someone's head. She wants to be special to someone, too.

We all do.

She has feelings. She has a heart. In fact, she probably has a bigger and better heart than any woman you've ever known because she's had a front-row seat to The Mess That Is Your Life, and she likes you anyway. She obviously sees something worthwhile and amazing in you because although you've given her nothing, absolutely no reason to still be around, she is.

But someday, she won't be there anymore. So better start thinking.

This is FOR THE BOYS! Mga tanong na walang sagot.

Nasan na ba ang mga boys? Taken na ba silang lahat or karamihan naging Bb. Bakit gusto nila yung may attitude problem? At bakit sila nagagalit pag may tumitingin?

Gusto ba ng boys yung super ganda? O kaya super sexy? O kaya hayop sa yaman? Pano kung matalino lang? Pano kung matalino and may sense of humor? Pano kung matalino, may sense of humor, at witty? Pano kung matalino, may sense of humor, witty, at magaling kumanta? O kaya magaling tumambling?

Kailangan ba party girl o kaya nagyoyosi?

Kailangan ba may kotse? Kailangan ba tapos ng college? Kailangan ba panganay? Kailangan ba naka-Havaianas? Ok na ba kung Beach Walk lang? Dapat ba galing ng Boracay at may tan line? Dapat ba may kulay ang buhok? Dapat ba naka-French tip ang nails? Dapat ba naka make-up?

Goodbye, my soon-to-be-but-never-will-be curly hair!

Alright, this is so random of me. While I was typing my thesis manuscript just before doing this post, I suddenly thought, "How am I going to have curly hair now? ARGH!"

Last Sunday, the impulsive diva inside me took over my decisions. I went into the salon to have my eyebrows trimmed and shaped and since I felt like doing something with my hair because I was starting to get bored with it, I told the receptionist, "I'd have a hair-cut, please." Argh. Stupid, stupid girl.

I have been planning to have my hair curled and that was the reason why I've been growing my hair for some time now. Not the kinky type of curls but, you know, the wavy big curls that make dull girls look ultra Hollywood-sexy. But because of my out-of-nowhere decision, I shall be saying goodbye to my soon-to-be-but-never-will-be curly hair. It's too short now to have waves. Boo.

I do not have a pic of my new hair style. It isn't new actually; this is the same style I've been getting since last year - layers on the side with side bangs - only shorter than usual. I dunno if the stylist made a mistake or something. The side-swept bangs were cut shorter than it should have been so it sort of pops out in a way I couldn't describe. Can't do anything about it though, so I guess I just have to wait for my hair to grow back again. But hey, it's not like I hate my hair style right now. It's just that I feel it could've been better if I wasn't so impulsive in the first place. Now thinking about how long I need to wait for my hair to grow back is killing me.

Lesson: never be impulsive when it comes to your hair. An inch cut is an inch you can never get back. Woot?!

Enough drama about hair. Back to work now.

When life throws you lemons...

...stomp over them and throw em back!

I'm getting sick and tired of the things life has been throwing at me. I wanna be mad, I wanna scream, I wanna fight life back... but man, I know better than that. It's just that sometimes you wonder: why is life throwing you overwhelming troubles when you've been so good to everybody else?

Hay buhay. Mabait lang talaga siguro ako. Maybe the evil one is testing its powers over me, but I will not give in. Then again, my patience can only do so much. I might just snap one day.

Oh well. Life's a bitch, alright.

Blame it on boredom.

So after a month, I finally decided to blog back (the Switchfoot video isn't counted because I posted it as a filler to save my blog from being doomed.) And I did this because I am so effin bored waiting for my experiment to finish!

You see, I have spent the last few weeks doing the last few experiments of my thesis. I have to finish this ASAP because I am leaving the country in July (but will be back in a few weeks or so) and this thesis may stop me from going. Hopefully, everything will turn out fine as I can't wait to NOT GO TO THE LAB even for just a day.

For the past few days I have been watching movies online to kill boredom. I watched the The Virgin Suicides yesterday though it took so long to load. I have just finished the book and I've been dying to find a DVD to complement the images of the Lisbons in my head but I just can't seem to find one locally. So I went online, searched movie databases and got lucky to find one site that streams the movie. Yay!

The other day I watched one of my fave movies ever: Wicker Park. Can you tell that I'm a Josh Hartnett fan? Haha! I don't mind watching the movie over and over and over again because I super love it. The. twist. is. just. amazing.

This afternoon I was searching for another Joshie movie -- 40 Days and 40 Nights -- which I got the chance of watching a few years back. But dang, video's not available anywhere online. Boo.

So there. Blame this on boredom. Nothing to watch and nothing to do. Plus, the fact that I am alone right now in the lab isn't helping. Then I thought of logging in to my blog to post an update. I miss doing this once in a while.

I tried updating my blog a couple of times last May but kept on ending up with nothing. My brain is too full of nerdy chemiresistor stuff as well as travel worries for next month that I have no time to blog nor check mail. But now that I am about to spend more time at home to prepare my thesis manuscript, I honestly hope to do the entries that are long over due. I am tired of planning blog posts that never get to go online.

Oh well, gotta get back to work now. I so want this to be over na!

I am Queen Paranoia

The events happening lately in my life are bringing me closer to my sanity's threshold. Paranoia's driving me to the edge, and it wouldn't be long before I wear a straightjacket. Seriously.

What kills me more is that I can not openly talk about this whole paranoia thing. You see, since I am Queen Paranoia right now, I am too paranoid that the people involved in the situation may get the chance to read that the hoopla has taken me this far -- that alone might just bring joy to their pathetic lives.

By admitting that I am becoming paranoid of some things may indicate that people around me are slowly becoming successful of their mission: to take me down at all cost. I don't care if this is just a figment of my mind, but I will not allow them to completely drive me to my wits' end.

I must stop here before things get crazier.

Madami pa akong sinubukang gawin nung bata-bata pa ako.

When you see the gift, nurture it." Sayang.

Dati kasi "Jack of all trades, master of none" ako.

Tanungin mo ako tungkol sa quantum mechanics, particle in a three dimensional box, atoms, molecules, chemical sensors, o kahit na organic chemistry, sigurado may maisasagot ako.

Sabi nga ng Nike, just do it.

Bumming for the Nth time

I am staying home today after a tiring morning I spent at the Department of Foreign Affairs. I got my passport renewed and to actually be able to do that, I had to stand in line for hours with the overwhelming number of people who are planning to get their butts out of the homeland! In fact, I started to work things out with DFA since Friday because of my "hold departure" thingie! I shall share with you stories from this adventure of mine next time.

Goodbye 1992 passport. Maroon, machine-readable passport, I shall wait for you.

I will be watching ANTM's 12th episode for now. Tata!

Random thoughts on a rainy Thursday

I was about to leave the house and head to school when my Mom called to tell my Dad that classes have been canceled because of the non-stop rain. I had my mind set on visiting Doc Sev to give him our gift (it's his burrrrrdddaaay!) and at the same time present my experimental data to him. But because of the not-so-friendly weather and the floods attempting to fill Dapitan today, I am stuck at home with nothing to do but blog and read journal articles.

****

Speaking of Doc Sev's birthday, I might just drop by BF later to get him some Starbucks Coffee beans. He loves caffeine so we'll give him loads of it. Plus, I will have an excuse to go out of the house. Haha.

****

While trying to print some documents earlier, I found out that our new HP printer software doesn't display ink levels. The page had several unprinted lines, so I guess the black ink's running out. I re-installed the software, found out that I missed installing some components, and that it woundn't complete its installation because my computer doesn't have enough RAM.

Argh.

I must really go out today and buy those RAM cards.

****

I do not really watch local movies, but my friends have convinced me to go watch John Lloyd's movie, One More Chance, tonight. Hmmm...

****

I hate it when it rains. It's sssssoooooo sad, so gloomy. It's like you have nothing else to do but sleep!

Therefore, I must really go out. Now na!

Like Wine in the River, Like Citizens of the World

*this came in the mail...*

Harvard Law School 2007 Student Commencement Address by Oscar Franklin
Barcelona Tan (Philippines) .

Dean Kagan, Vice-Dean Alford, professors, classmates, families, and
friends. Let me first thank our tireless graduate program staff. They
were the first friendly faces who greeted me, told me which functions
offered free food, and what to do if you faint during your final
exams. Assistant Dean Jeanne Tai, Nancy Pinn, Heather Wallick, Curtis
Morrow, Jane Bestor, Chris Nepple, April Stockfleet: This year would
not have been possible without you.

But this goes to everyone: Thank you all for truly making us feel part
of this community. We LLMs became your fellow students after your
Salsa Party, Chinese and Korean New Year, African Night, and our
International Party.

To honor you, we took Europe by storm, winning in the inaugural
Negotiation Challenge, in the European Law Moot Court, and in the
Willem Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court. Of course,
you truly become part of Harvard Law School when you're featured in
the Parody.

Not so long ago, Cambridge seemed a strange, unfriendly place
especially when I first saw Gropius. I went to John Harvard's with
the British, who began chittering in an alien language. I later
discovered it was actually English -- the real English. I complained I
was not used to cold, but a Saudi Arabian reminded me that you can fry
eggs on a sidewalk in Riyadh. An
Italian gave me tips on women because Italian men are the world's greatest
lovers, with the disclaimer that their style does not work on American
women. A Malaysian was asked to explain the religious significance of
the color of her hijab, or headscarf. She would answer: It had to
match her
blouse.

Soon, we found that great substance that keeps any law school
together: alcohol. On New Year's Eve, a Belarusian handed me a glass
of vodka, but scolded me when I began to sip it. Sipping, he
emphasized, was not the Slavic way. I shared a Frenchman's champagne,
a Peruvian's pisco sour, a Costa Rican's pina colada, a Brazilian's
caipirinha, a Mexican's tequila, and a Japanese's sake. And apologies
to the Germans, but I learned how even weak American beer enlivens an
evening when you drink it with the Irish.

We found greater common ground: The Swiss complained about American
chocolate, the New Zealanders complained about American cheese, the
Sri Lankans complained about American tea, the Indians complained
about the lack of vegetarian food, and everyone complained that
American food makes you fat. An Austrian made homemade apfelstrudel.
A Nigerian made homemade fried plantains. The Pakistanis made a non
spicy version of keema, and I only needed eight glasses of water
during the meal. All the Americans had was Three Aces pizza.

As for me, I come from the Philippines, a former American colony best
known for Imelda Marcos's shoe collection. I remember being a six-year
old watching my parents walk out of our house to join the crowds
gathering to depose the dictator Ferdinand Marcos and form human walls
against tanks. I remember being a twenty-year old in a different crowd
deposing a different but equally corrupt president.

It was liberating to hear how a Chilean danced with crowds in the
streets when Pinochet was arrested. How the Chinese come to grips
with Tiananmen Square, while convinced that one cannot transplant
American-style government wholesale to Beijing. How life changed in
the former Soviet Union; how it was like growing up in a fledgling
Eastern European country. How a Pakistani discussed Musharraf's
assault on judicial independence
with a South African worried about Mugabe's own acts in Zimbabwe.

It was even more liberating to hear from a Korean prosecutor how his
country sent two former presidents to jail. How the Swiss have
preserved their tradition of independence and referendum. How Ghana
threw off
its colonial fetters and inspired a conscious African solidarity. How
a Bhutanese wants to help shape her constitution after her king
voluntarily gave up absolute power.

I cannot deny that our generation's issues will be complex, but I can
guarantee that they will never be abstract, not after having a
classmate who was an Israeli army drill sergeant, not after having a
Chinese classmate with a Taiwanese girlfriend, nor after having a
classmate chased by gunmen out of
Afghanistan. In fact, when George W. Bush's speechwriter visited, my
Iranian classmate introduced himself, "Hi, I'm from an Axis of Evil
country."

Friends, my most uplifting thought this year has been that the more we
learn about each other, the more we realize that we are all alike, and
the more we inspire each other to realize our most heartfelt
yearnings. My single most memorable moment here came when I met South
African Justice Albie Sachs, left with only one arm after an
assassination attempt during apartheid.

My classmate stood up and said: "South Africa is the world's second
most unequal country. I come from Brazil, the world's most unequal
country, and I admire how the South African Constitutional Court has
inspired the progress of human rights throughout the world."

And this is how Harvard has changed us. We recall struggling with
English to keep pace with the world's most brilliant professors,
especially with Elizabeth Warren's Socratic blitzkriegs, and we thank
Harvard for raising our thinking to a higher, broader level.

But even the most powerful ideas demand passion to set them aflame.
The passion we ignite today is fueled by a collage of vignettes that
will remind us in this crucible of life that our peers in faraway
lands face the same frustrations, the same nation building ordeals,
the same sorrows, and ultimately, the same shared joys and triumphs.

How do a mere 700 change the world, even with overpriced Harvard
diplomas? Before a great battle in China's Spring and Autumn Period,
the legendary King Gou Jian of Yue was presented with fine wine. He
ordered his troops to stand beside a river, and poured the wine into
it. He ordered them to drink from the river and share his gift. A
bottle of wine cannot flavor a river, but the gesture so emboldened
his army that they won a great victory. We of the Class of 2007 shall
flavor this earth, whether we be vodka, wine, champagne, pisco sour,
pina colada, caipirinha, tequila, sake, jagermeister, raki, Irish
stout, Ugandan Warabi, or Philippine lambanog.

Thus, my friends --and this includes our American classmates who will
soon lead the world's lone superpower -- let us transcend our individual
nationalities and affirm that we are citizens of the world. Maraming
salamat po, at mabuhay kayong lahat.*Thank you and long live you all.*

Randomness

Am I the one who can make you fly up above?
Is it me who can take you higher than you're dreaming of?

- from a song by an old artist (wala lang...)

****

The best line I heard last weekend:

From Glen to Harris (on column packing for chromatography):
"Your column packing is not good, you packing bastard!"

Nice one.
